THE CONSUMMATE PERFORMER
PENWAH [spelled correctly "Phynjuar"] is one of the most phenomenal artist of our time. Young in spirit, with a bubbly personality, she is a lively renaissance woman, as well as a gifted actor, comedian, music producer, music historian, radio personality, busy acting coach, hands-on creative visionary, and self-proclaimed professional cusser if needed! Today she works with and influences many actors, including Ms. Tasha Smith, who says "PENWAH is by far one of the funniest and talented women you will ever hope to meet!" Paul Mooney says, "Would somebody please give this woman her own show.”
An incredibly generous woman, PENWAH shares her gifts by grooming and coaching up-and-coming talent. Most important of them all, she was the guiding force behind the successful career of her daughter MICHELLE THOMAS, who was best known for her roles as Myra Monkhouse on the long-running ABC Television hit show Family Matters, Justine Justine on The Cosby Show, and Callie Rogers on The Young & The Restless. Tragically, Michelle passed away on Christmas eve 1998, and after a long battle with grief PENWAH has pulled herself up by her bootstraps and is on another mission to success.
An accomplished Casting Director, Producer, Theatre Director, PENWAH is at home in front of and behind the camera. PENWAH is a seasoned talent who has been on stage since a toddler (one of the children in Porgy and Bess, the baby in A Black Nativity, and later in the cast of Hair with Donna Summer). She garnered major accolades in George C. Wolfe’s Original Colored Museum, Summer Suns Tales of Night, and Piano Bar. She also studied with some of the greatest names in this business like Beah Richards, George C Wolfe, Barbra Ann Teer, Glynn Turman, and C. Bernard Jackson, just to name a few; and at fine institutions like The Alma Lewis School of Fine Arts in Boston, Inner City Cultural, The National Black Theatre, New England Conservatory, Berklee School of Music, and Emerson College.
PENWAH's film and television work includes title roles in Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns, Blue Bloods, Yes Madam, directed by Magaly Colimon and Hush, directed by Reg E. Gaines. She also had a recurring role on Family Matters as Mitzi Monkhouse, the mother of Myra Monkhouse. Noteworthy: When PENWAH was cast in the role of Mitzi Monkhouse, the Casting Director, the producers, no one had an inkling that she and Michelle were actually mother and daughter in real life. According to PENWAH, "This was a major coup!"
PENWAH's credits include: Grammy nominee, 2-time AUDELCO Award Winner, 3-time nominated Major Child Prodigy Activity Classically Trained, Gourmet Farm-to-Table Organic Natural Homeopath Practitioner, Licensed NLP and Healing Arts Practitioner.
